Syphilis is a chronic, systemic sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum (TP), a pathogenic spirochete. It is primarily transmitted through sexual contact, and also spreads via vertical mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy and childbirth, or rare direct contact with infectious lesions.

 A typical feature of syphilis infection is its long latent and asymptomatic period. After infection, patients may experience intermittent symptoms that subside spontaneously without treatment. The TP pathogen remains active in the body for years, leading to continuous transmission and potential irreversible organ damage.

 

03. Four Clinical Stages of Syphilis

1. Primary Syphilis: Painless hard chancres appear at the infection site. The skin lesions heal spontaneously in a short period, but the spirochetes survive and replicate in the human body.

2. Secondary Syphilis: Systemic symptoms occur, including generalized skin rash, fever, lymphadenopathy, and sore throat. Symptoms may fade temporarily and progress to latent syphilis.

3. Latent Syphilis: No visible clinical symptoms, but TP antibodies and pathogens exist in the body. Latent infection can last for months or even several years.

Standard Test Operation & Result Interpretation

Bring the test kit and specimens to room temperature (15℃-30℃) before testing. Add 1 drop (30μL) specimen and 2 drops (60μL) buffer to the test well. Read results strictly at 15 minutes; results are invalid after 20 minutes.

 Positive: Both control line (C) and test line (T) appear; Negative: Only control line (C) appears; Invalid: No control line appears; need to retest with a new cassette.
