Testsealabs Cryptosporidium Antigen Test
Cryptosporidium is a diarrhoeal disease caused by microscopic parasites of the genus Cryptosporidium, which live in the intestine and are excreted in the stool.
The parasite is protected by an outer shell, enabling it to survive outside the body for extended periods and making it highly resistant to chlorine-based disinfectants. Both the disease and the parasite are commonly referred to as "Crypto."
Transmission of the disease can occur through:
- Ingestion of contaminated water
- Contact with fomites contaminated by coughs from an infected individual
Like other gastrointestinal pathogens, it spreads via the fecal-oral route.
