Summary
Entamoeba histolytica has trophozoites and cysts. After escaping from the cyst, trophozoites parasitize in the intestinal cavity or wall of the large intestine. With the contents of the large intestine, including bacteria, as food, they divide and reproduce under the conditions of hypoxia and the presence of bacteria in the intestine. The resistance of trophozoites is very weak, and they die within hours at room temperature, or within minutes in case of dilute hydrochloric acid. Under appropriate conditions, trophozoites can invade and destroy tissues, cause colonic lesions, and cause clinical symptoms
