Oxycodone: Key Information
Oxycodone is a semi-synthetic opioid with structural similarity to codeine. It is manufactured by modifying thebaine, an alkaloid found in the opium poppy.
Like all opiate agonists, oxycodone provides pain relief by acting on opioid receptors in the spinal cord, brain, and possibly directly in affected tissues. It is prescribed for moderate to high pain relief under well-known trade names, including:

Notably, Tylox®, Percodan®, and Percocet® contain small doses of oxycodone hydrochloride combined with other analgesics (e.g., acetaminophen or aspirin), while OxyContin® consists solely of oxycodone hydrochloride in a time-release form.
Oxycodone metabolizes via demethylation into oxymorphone and noroxycodone. For a single 5mg oral dose, 33–61% is excreted in 24-hour urine, with primary constituents being:

Conjugated drug (7–29%)
Conjugated oxymorphone (13–14%)
The window of detection for oxycodone in urine is expected to be similar to that of other opioids (e.g., morphine).
The OXY Oxycodone Test yields a positive result when urine oxycodone levels exceed 100 ng/mL. Currently, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has not established a recommended screening cut-off for oxycodone-positive specimens.
